International Evening 2019 Donations

Every year the English-German Student Council (EGSC) is able to donate to charities like Pécsi Jótékony Nőegylet, Pécsi Lions Klub, Pécsi Közösségi Alapítvány as well as various University Departments and clinics from the donations collected at the International Evening.

With the funds raised at the International Evening 2019, EGSC was able to donate to the Dentistry, Psychiatry, Pulmonology and Pediatrics clinics and the Department of Anatomy.

The Pulmonology Department received a donation of 545.000 Forints. Pictured (1. picture from L-R) are Paula Kvame-Aarestad, EGSC English Communication Contact, Amber Martinez, ESGC English Vice President, who presented the donation board to Dr. Ruzsics István, representative from the Department of Internal Medicine Pulmonology Clinic. On behalf of the clinic, Dr. Ruzsics, expressed their appreciation for the monetary donation with which they were able to purchase many small things including NIV masks and a blood measure machine.

The Department of Anatomy was given 1.000.000 Forints to improve the quality of teaching. Pictured (2. picture, from L-R) are Yasin El Mokhtari, EGSC German Communication Contact, Nick Alkhouri, EGSC English President, Dr. Hollósy Tibor, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Anatomy and Prof. Dóra Reglődi, Chair of the Department of Anatomy, and the models that the department were able to purchase with the donated funds. Prof. Dóra said how very useful the plastic models are for both Anatomy and Histology classes. She explained, “There are some anatomical relations that are hard to understand, to imagine in 3D, and these models help students a lot. During online teaching, some teachers use the histology models by showing them to the students through the camera, while others use them in lectures. The anatomy models are all used in classes. Now that we have in-person teaching, the models we have purchased during the past years are very useful especially when we divide the class into smaller study groups to avoid overcrowding around the cadaver.” The various demonstration models allow the Department to facilitate learning within small groups and we are so grateful to have been able to contribute to this improvement in their teaching methods.

An article about our donation to the Dentistry clinic was featured back in February 2020 and can be found at https://aok.pte.hu/en/hirek/hir/12147 and a future article is to come about our donation to the Pediatrics clinic.

We would like to thank all the students and community members who have participated and attended our past International Evenings, because without you all none of this would be possible.

Even though the International Evening 2020 didn’t happen, we still have money remaining after holding four opportunities for wristband returns and as promised we will donate this remaining money to our charities and various University Departments and clinics. Stay tuned as we will soon announce who our 2020 donation recipients are.
